Swagger Athletics - Sports Training
Dave Jefferson Dave Jefferson
President & CEO, Swagger Athletics

Dave is passionate about helping young athletes meet big goals. In becoming a professional athlete, he realized how much better the next generation of young athletes could be trained than he had been. New approaches to training recently introduced at the advanced level – for example, plyometrics, core strengthening, and movement mechanics – could be safely adapted to young athletes to improve their overall athleticism.

More important than all the new advances in physical training, the mental approach learned by advanced athletes can be taught to young athletes -- developing a plan for training that spans multiple seasons, disciplined preparation for individual, avoidance of over-training and fatigue, knowing how to stay within your limits, working through the inevitable failures along the way. David has helped young athletes learn this approach and perform at a much higher levels as a result.

David Jefferson was selected in the 13th round of the 1993 major league draft by the Florida Marlins. He played minor league baseball with the Florida Marlins, the Chicago Cubs, and the Montreal Expos for nine years until injuries cut short his career. In 2002 David returned to the San Francisco Bay Area to individually coach youth of all ages in baseball and basketball, and was Head Coach at Palo Alto High School from 2003 to 2008.

Mani Messy Ryan Greenfield
V.P. Baseball Operations

Ryan has played and enjoyed all sports from a very young age. Growing up in Palo Alto, Ryan was a member of year-round travel baseball and soccer teams while keeping academics a priority. During high school Ryan played on the varsity baseball team for 3 years. Ryan graduated from the University of Arizona’s Eller College of Management with a B.S. in Finance.

While in Tucson for school, Ryan was part of a number of programs that dispersed funds to local organizations that could make big impacts in the community. At the conclusion of the programs, Ryan received a certificate of recognition and appreciation from the Mayor of Tucson.

After graduating college, Ryan returned to Palo Alto to give back to the community. He worked at a few jobs while simultaneously volunteering with Palo Alto Little League as a coach, and quickly found that the time spent working with kids and being back on the baseball field was what he wanted to pursue. Since that initial coaching stint, Ryan has coached and managed teams year-round with players varying in age from 6 - 18.

Ryan’s coaching philosophy is to make his players understand how to deal with successes and failures of the game while having fun. These fundamentals hopefully will give them a better understanding of how to deal with day to day obstacles.
